In recent decades, the integration of autonomous systems has revolutionized military operations, offering a plethora of advantages such as enhanced performance, increased decision accuracy, reduced risks of errors, accidents, and human casualties. However, the utilization of automation in such contexts has unveiled potential pitfalls, driven by psychological phenomena, like overreliance and automation bias. Although many studies have been carried out in the field of human factors engineering to explain the origin of these phenomena and to avoid them, few studies have exploited studies on metacognition and confidence in decision-making. My aim is to link these two fields of study to identify new ways of avoiding these risks and to investigate their effectiveness.”
