Confidence is fundamental to human decision-making. It helps determine whether we prioritize fast or accurate choices, directs our focus during studying, and even plays a key role in how we collaborate with others. My research project investigates the origins of confidence: How does confidence emerge from perceptual evidence and what are the consequences of this process? With the help of recent developments in deep neural networks and evolutionary algorithms, I develop computational models that capture how confidence emerges and how it influences individual and collaborative decision-making.
